Released in 1922, Nosferatu is a classic Silent Movie that was an unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.
Even with several details altered, Stoker's heirs sued over the adaptation, and a court ruling ordered all copies of the film to be destroyed. However, several prints of Nosferatu survived and the film came to be regarded as an influential masterpiece of cinema and the horror genre. Critic and historian Kim Newman declared it as a film that set the template for the genre of horror film.
In this documentary we look at the origins of the film, through to its influence on movies at the time, through to modern day films. In 2024 Director Robert Eggers brings this cult classic to the screen in a modern day telling of this classic tale, highlighting the influence this classic horror is still having on cinema over 100 years since it was first released
